Castle Ruins and a German Zoo

Spring weather has arrived for us (sorry, Hoosier friends!).  So we have taken advantage of the 50 degree weather and had some adventures at castle ruins, a zoo, and at home camping out.  A look at some of our fun...
We visited Heidelberg Castle (just 15 minutes from us!)
and were amazed at its size and history.
Find out more about Heidelberg Castle
There is a lot of visible destruction
from wars, lightning and fire, and age.

A view over Neckar River from the top of the castle.

This week the girls' school is closed for February break.  Our plans yesterday were the Heidelberg Zoo and it was an awesome day!  The zoo was similar to US zoos, except you can access the animals a lot easier...and they can access you easier, too!  Some exhibits had no barriers, or limited ones. It was totally safe, as long as your kids are "in check".
This guy was just hangin' out with us.
Kayla wasn't sure what to think!

Yes, spring flowers!
(Brenna still loves to photo-bomb.)

On one of our mountain hikes, we discovered some ruins. These are about a 12 minute walk from our back door! I could not find much information on the ruins, except they date back to 1142.  This area was inhabited by Celts around 500 BC.

What do you do when you have an
indoor garden room and a black
thumb?  Let your kids camp out!
They loved sleeping "under
the stars" and watching the glow
of the fake fire on their tablets!
